Westfields 3 - 2 Leamington

Monday, March 20th, 2006

We made the long journey to Hereford in the expectation of a satisfying show of strength, against the team at the bottom of the league, with 22 losses in 30 games. Yes, glory hunting at its worst, but what can you do?
I predicted we’d win 2-0, and and at half time, even though we [...]

Leamington 0 - 2 Malvern

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

It’s a scoreline that doesn’t reflect the play. Most spectators will agree that we outplayed them. Unfortunately it’s goals that count.
Nobody scored in the first half, although a Malvern foul resulted in David Care being carried off the pitch.
Someone lost concentration in the first few minutes of the second half, resulting in Malvern’s first [...]

Oadby Town 0 - 3 Leamington

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Steve had things to do, so didn’t come to the outskirts of Leicester with us, but he lent us his satnav to find the way.
It got us close, but we had to drive back and forth for a bit looking for telltale floodlights before getting in just as the kick off whistle blew.
Steve was [...]

Brakes 2 - 1 Cradley, maybe

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

Last night was weird.
To start with, it was blowing a gale at the New Windmill Ground. People who site windmills know what they’re doing, obviously. The strength and gustiness of the wind made the play pretty strange.
25 minutes in, Steve and I decided to get a drink, and sure enough Richard Adams scored the [...]

Causeway 0 - 3 Leamington

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

I didn’t write about Leamington’s most satisfying 3-0 victory against Tipton last weekend; I’m not sure why not. Richard Adams did it with a hat-trick, and people were generally pleased.
The reason I didn’t blog the 1-3 home defeat to Chasetown on Tuesday was that I was down about it. Brakes have had enough of [...]

Leamington 1 - 1 Romulus

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

I wore seven layers of clothes for last night’s home match against second-from-top-of-the-table Romulus. Steve’s car was frosted up, and its thermometer read -1. The good news: clearing out the spare room, I’d found my Gore-Tex scootering gloves. The bad news, my hat has been lost for weeks. More good news, the club shop [...]

Chasetown 0 - 2 Leamington

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

With Chasetown being the other Midland Alliance team to make it to the first round of the FA Cup, today was always going to be a red letter day. Steve set his TomTom to an arbitrary postcode somewhere in the Chasetown environs, and we took a CSI route avoiding the toll road.
Then we spent [...]

Brakes on Wikipedia

Friday, January 13th, 2006

Back in November, I spent a couple of evenings creating a Wikipedia entry for every team in the Midland Football Alliance. Most of them are just stubs, with vital statistics gleaned from the Non-Leage Directory. Leamington, of course, gets a flagship entry, of which I’m reasonably proud, so I thought I’d give it a [...]

Leamington 1 - 1 Barwell

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

The gale blowing at the exposed New Windmill Ground made last night’s league game an odd one. Tried and tested plays found themselves in disarray as the ball got caught in the wind.
New boy Jody McKay scored in the 10th minute. It looked pretty even, but a second goal never came. Barwell equalised with [...]

Racing Club Warwick 0 - 1 Leamington

Monday, December 26th, 2005

We set off from Aberystwyth at 8am on Boxing Day, and made it in comfortable time for the local Derby between Warwick and Leamington. The crowd was mighty, and heftily weighted in favour of Leamington.
Richard Adams scored the goal, a few minutes into the second half, and it was a cracker.
