Weekend: Bees, chilling, food

201 words

I took Friday off so we could travel to my parents. We took a new route suggested by the Tom Tom, which diverges from our usual route in Welshpool, heading for Machynlleth instead of Newtown, and it made a pleasant change.

On Saturday, Mum and Dad took us to Newquay where we visited the exhibition at New Quay Honey Farm. We probably all thought we knew a lot about bees, but I think we all learned a lot from it. There’s a fantastic exhibit of a living leaf-cutter ant nest, four “natural” beehives, and an “expanding” hive on man-made frames so you could see inside. There was also an interesting Australian video about the bee’s weird society, which got me thinking about software development. Really.

We pottered around Newquay and ate some cawl, and got home in time for dinner and the rugby World Cup final. Debbie and I didn’t really understand the game; apparently it was played in a very technical spirit, not conducive to newcomers. England lost.

On Sunday, Ceri came for a flying visit, we had Sunday Lunch at the Castle Hotel in Aberystwyth — which was very good indeed — and came home so I could play a little Portal.
