“Catchup” for Flickr

142 words

Does it irritate you when your Flickr homepage shows a bright yellow “new!” flag next to your comments link, but when you click it, it’s just comments you’ve already seen?

Well, it annoyed me.

The answer is to reset the flag, by visiting http://flickr.com/?clear=y but that’s “secret” and I got fed up of having to type it.

If you’re a Firefox or Flock user, and you’re willing to use Greasemonkey, I’ve fixed it.

(Greasemonkey is a rather wonderful addon for Firefox which allows local scripts to mess around with web pages as they load)

Install the Flickr Catchup user script (it’s a very simple script; very slightly technical people could probably audit it with no prior Javascript or Greasemonkey knowledge).

Once it’s installed, the Flickr home page will have a new item in the “You” menu at the top, called “Catchup”. This links to the “clear=y” page. Convenient!
