Why’s (Poignant) Guide to Ruby
110 wordsThe thing I like about O’Reilly books is that they get straight to the point. They’re not too dry — there is wit and readability, but not at the expense of conciseness. The antithesis of this is the Idiot’s Guide series, which patronises the reader with overlong explanations of simple concepts.
And then there’s Why’s (Poignant) Guide to Ruby. If you thought the Idiot’s Guides were verbose, you ain’t seen nothing. But this goes in a completely different direction. Instead of (or as well as) handholding you through the very basics of a programming language, it deviates into crazy tangential flights of fantasy. There are cartoon foxes too.
