Weekend
268 words A packed weekend!
Saturday morning was reasonably relaxed, admittedly, which is a good thing because the guest IPA at the Jug for our Happy Friday visit was made of rocket fuel or something.
Leamington were entertaining Retford United for an FA Vase match. Because of the anticipated large crowds, we used the park and ride facility. The ground was rammed with nearly 1,400 people. At first Retford looked pretty dangerous - but we beat them 5-1 in the end.
We didn’t manage to get on the first bus back, but were at the front of the queue for the next run. We set straight off towards Heywood, getting a reasonably clear run up the toll road and M6. We had some problems checking in at the Village Hotel in Bury (they misheard Debbie’s name) but the room was pleasant enough, and soon afterwards we got a taxi to Heywood Cricket Club. The taxi driver didn’t know where it was, mind you.
The event was an engagement party for Debbie’s brother John and his fiancee Rochelle. Over a very loud disco, I was reaquainted with some of Debbie’s family, and newly acquainted with many more. On best behaviour, I was.
Sunday was a whirl of visits — Debbie’s mum, two brothers, aunt and uncle, and her dad (at his local for the 2nd half of the Man City match) — still on best behaviour. I drank many cups of tea and coffee.
The drive home wasn’t as clear as the drive up — but we waited out the worst of the traffic by stopping for a light dinner at some services. At home, we flopped.
