Family Party
211 wordsA big weekend!
Mum had organised a big party, mostly to celebrate Dad’s 60th birthday, but also as a send-off for Ruth and Dave’s emigration adventure.
On Friday, we joined an advance party in a cottage in Newland, in the Forest of Dean on the Welsh borders. We enjoyed chat, good food and great beer at The Ostrich pub. On Saturday morning there was time for a relaxed breakfast and a look at Newland’s church “The Cathedral of the Forest”.
We proceeded to Tintern, where a great many of Dad’s friends and family were waiting, as well as select group of Ruth’s school friends. A smashing meal, some excellent speechifying by Dad’s school/college/thereafter friend Graham, some surprisingly good speechifying by Dad himself, and the afternoon could well and truly be declared a success.
Late on, I realised I should have been taking more photos. I failed miserably, and only snapped a fraction of the people there — I only got one shot of Dad himself! I hope others will add to the Flickr group.
After afternoon tea, Ruth and Dave slinked away. Mum had made it quite clear that the evening was for them and their friends, so we also made our farewells. It had been a lovely day — but we had more socialising planned!

Now you’ve made me feel bad! I only said we’d arrange for you to move from your cottage bedroom to a B and B. But you know that. Good photos, which with photos from several other sources give a good record of a great weekend.
