Busy weekend

Cor, what an active few days.

On Thursday, the office decamped to The South for a GXS party in a marquee near Hampton Court, and much boozy fun was had by all.

On Friday, Gary and I didn’t really feel up to a full scale Happy Friday, but the HF members gathered for a quiet curry at the Delhi Palace anyway, then went straight home.

On Saturday, Debbie and I drove to Barwell, near Hinckley, to watch Leamington’s league game against them. Many Brakes fans resent Barwell’s victory against them in the final of last year’s Polymac League Cup — when what’s widely believed to have been a dive in the penalty area contributed to their victory. The end result was Barwell 0 - 3 Leamington, but like the Coalville match a few weeks ago, the scoreline makes it look easier than it was.

On our return from the football, we went to the White Lion in Radford for drinks and food to begin celebrating Paul’s 40th birthday, but this was only really a warmup for the big celebration on Sunday, when we joined Paul and many others on a Cava-laden canal boat cruising back and forth between Leamington and Warwick.

Much fun was had. We finished off by attending a quiz at the Bowling Green, set and hosted by Paul and Simon. We won comfortably — but I promise this is because between us, we know many of the same things as Paul… and Jim has an encyclopaedic knowledge of Bond themes, and not (as Paul implied) because we found answer sheets on the boat.
