Strada

247 words

Leamington’s latest chain pizza/pasta restaurant — because an Ask, a Zizzi’s and a Prezzo weren’t enough, not to mention the independant Piccolino’s — is Strada, taking a prime position on Livery St., right next to the Regent Hotel’s Travelodge entrance.

We decided to try it for Happy Friday, with Jim, Gary, MC and Steve.

The decor is nice - cosy yet modern, with lots of mirrors and some dominating fancy lampshades in the middle. We were led to a table in the corner. Jim and Gary had some vouchers for free wine - one bottle per table, it said, but Steve made his lost puppy eyes at the waitress, and she let us use them both. A great start!

I was impressed that they provide complimentary bottled water. Some places bring expensive bottled water when you ask for tap water. We got some garlic bread and pesto bread to get us started, and that was nice.

My starter was Carpaccio of beef, neither good nor bad really.

We seemed to be waiting an age for our main courses. The wine kept flowing to make the wait bearable.

When it came, my pizza was impressively large, was suitably thin and crusty and the first mouthful was promising, but the crust had a strange antiseptic flavour to it, and I ended up not uncomfortably full,  but not motivated to finish my helping.

We moved on to the Jug. I rate Strada as “OK”. I think Prezzo will be the Italian chain first choice for the timebeing.

    Okay, so it’s only 10 o’clock.

But I could quite happily eat a pizza now. And yes I did have breakfast.
