Bank Holiday Weekend films

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

We managed to fit in a lot of films this weekend: Silent Hill, Cry Wolf, Zombie Honeymoon

I enjoyed the Playstation game of Silent Hill, at least until I ran out of ammo and was unprepared to revert to an old save to work through a gruelling section conserving bullets. I enjoyed PS2 Silent Hill […]

Films

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

The tilers are in, and we are exiled from our living room and our proper TV. We rented some DVDs from Choices to watch in the spare bedroom, on a 17in computer monitor. We decided that this meant subtitled films were a bad idea.
So, last night we watched:

A History of Violence. The critics […]

Causeway United 0 - 2 Leamington

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

Steve drove us up to Oldbury, to see Tividale’s amazing sloping pitch, where Causeway share the ground.
As is common, the ground had underestimated Leamington’s travelling support and struggled to cater for all the hungry people. I got some curry and chips (rather nice) just as their frier overheated and threatened to pack in for […]

You can do it!

On our Oregon Trail journey, this was the best thing on TV. It was on a lot.

Cartograms

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Just after the US elections in 2004, I posted about some cartograms depicting the spread of votes. They were interesting.
Here are some more cartograms, and at Worldmapper there are loads of them. So far, the one where the UK looks biggest is the fruit imports one…

Late mention: Ascroft wedding

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Look, I’m just easing back into blogging.
Almost as soon as we got back from Bali, we went to Brighton for Tom and Fiona’s wedding.
The car journey to Brighton was ridiculous –  we spent about 3 of the 5 hours crawling around  the M25. I mean, what a ridiculous place to put a town.
Other than […]

Irritating morning

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

A very dissatisfying morning so far:

Got quite a nice shirt out of the wardrobe. Went to iron it, found white paint on it. No idea how it got there. It’s probably ruined.
I left the house to find the paper on the doorstep, missing the main section. I just have the sport and G2.
Walking to […]

DIY / GaMI

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Oh boy.
Last Monday, Debbie said “It’s high time we cleaned that living room carpet”. This would involve spending £25 or so on hiring a carpet shampooer, and the effort of moving all the furniture out. “I hate having carpet, it always gets filthy again in no time. Are you sure we can’t have laminate?”
Now, […]

Leamington 1 - 0 Oadby

Monday, August 14th, 2006

My hands sore from DIY, we went to the New Windmill Ground for the first match the MFA season, against Oadby.
Oadby gave a good solid game, and as we went into extra time, the 0-0 scoreline seemed mostly consistent with the run of play. Leamington had been denied a penalty earlier in the game […]

Introducing Slivr

Friday, August 11th, 2006

On my Videorama tutorial I solicited better names for the technique — since “videorama” has been used in many other context, most notably as a publisher of porn DVDs.

A commenter named Jonah suggested “Slivr”. So, that’s what it’s called from now on.
