Medium Format Fun

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

You may have gathered from the previous post that I’ve been playing with medium format film. The reason for this is that I was looking in charity shops for camera suitable for hacking into pinholes, and came across several box cameras, so I bought one. These were very much cheap and cheerful cameras even […]

A weekend

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

I wrote a long and extremely dull entry about my bank holiday weekend. Then I deleted it to replace with a bullet list.

Friday curry at Kismet with Debbie, Steve, Gary, MC. Then Big Brother, then tipsy phone call to handle work emergency with Americans less drunk and 5 hours less tired than me.
Saturday, Debbie […]

You can see my house from here

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

Well!
Microsoft has beaten Google to getting comprehensive aerial photography of the UK online. I’ve checked Leamington, Aberystwyth and even Bow Street, the village near Aber where I grew up, and all look good.
You can start at the Regent Hotel in Leamington.
Come on Google, catch up.

Wrong About Japan by Peter Carey

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Peter Carey’s Wrong About Japan has been in my Amazon wishlist since it came out in hardback (wouldn’t it be nice if it could automatically update hardback items to paperback editions when they become available, if you choose that?). I spotted it in Fopp yesterday for £3 and grabbed it.
The first surprise was that I […]

Eurovision 2006 Qualifiers

Friday, May 19th, 2006

On Saturday we have a duty to serve appropriate food and drink for the 24 countries in the Eurovision Song Contest final. This means we were obliged to watch the qualifying round on BBC3 last night.
We tried to guess who’d get through, and let me tell you that if we’d been right, the quality […]

Video Videorama

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

This is a panorama made from a video I took while at the Brakes match in Walsall the other day. The thing is, these videoramas look different, depending on where in the frame you choose to crop your slices from.
So, last night I worked my computer very hard, and generated 480 panoramas a bit […]

Leamington 1 - 3 Barwell

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

It was all very exciting going to Walsall’s proper stadium for the final of the Polymac League Cup against Barwell (a bus stop near Hinckley).
It ended in disappointment. The Brakes didn’t play their best in the first half, and gave away a silly goal as a result. There was still hope, but it faded […]

Flightplan

Monday, May 15th, 2006

The problem with Flightplan, our DVD rental last night, is that it thinks it’s better than it is. It goes for self-consciously arty stylishness, when really and truly it’s just a thriller. I find myself agreeing with Mark Kermode, who compared it with Red Eye. Red Eye wasn’t classy, but it knew it, and […]

Google Calendar

Monday, May 15th, 2006

For a while I’ve been running WebCalendar on this very site (you never noticed did you?) as a way to try and organise mine and Debbie’s schedules. It allows each of us to have our own calendar, as well as a shared one, and look at all three (or more) in a layered view.
However, […]

Brotherhood of the Wolf

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

Last night’s DVD entertainment was on loan from Troy: Brotherhood Of The Wolf.
I’d heard of it, but didn’t really know what to expect. Was it a martial arts flick? A horror film? It was made in France: was it in French? With its English title and conspicuous evasion of the whole French aspect on […]
