Leamington Man Pleased by Sandwich Shop

155 words

I like Subway. I know some people are sniffy about it, but as fast food franchises go, it’s good food: adequate bread, acceptable meat, and good quantities of decent salad. It’s not haute quisine (”hot food”: Alan Partridge) but it makes for a good sandwich. I’m sorry to say that none of the independent sandwich shops I’ve tried in Leamington can do a better one.

This is especially upsetting as the Guardian reader in me would like to sit in the independent Big Cup cafe congratulating myself on getting a nicer sandwich than in the Subway next door, and supporting local enterprise. Alas, when I tried this, I instead found myself gazing folornly at my disappointing sandwich, and wishing I’d gone to Subway instead.

But, Subway can’t make me as happy as it did the man in this charming story. Isn’t it nice to hear about small things making people happy? Meatball was a good choice too.

Cuba, Sip and Toyk always used to do good sandwiches.

It arrived after we left but I hear the place that replaced Debenhams cafe is also pretty good.

It depends what kind of thing you like I suppose - if you want a sloppy US style sandwich where half the filling ends up in your lap then Subway’s the place to go.

You may know that the people who opened up the new subway in Old Town are the same people who run the Subway, north of the river.
There is obviously a big market for this in Leammo.

Personally I like a sweet chilli chicken panini from that place near HSBC, but only if I don’t have one of their all day breakfast baps.

Meatballs is one of my favourite Subway sandwiches, but it’s pretty messy. Pret a Manger also makes decent sandwiches, but not usually on demand. Most sandwiches you buy out are pretty disappointing, which is why these two stand out.

Ah, our closest Pret is in 33km away in Birmingham. Probably not worth the trip…

personally i enjoy a good 12′ meatball toasted with cheese myself and to anyone who also shares my love for this sandwich should really visit the U.K for one ive tried newyork(usa) subway meatballs… barcelona(spain) meatballs and quite frankly English meatballs do it for me everytime so get yourselfs a cheap flight with jet2.com to englan and enjoy a great meatball sandwich… i promise its worth the journey!!!!
