Two football matches
308 wordsOn Saturday we assisted Steve into our car (apparently a broken leg means only the front seat will do, even on a 5 door car) and escorted him to the New Windmill Ground for a grudge match against Coalville. Earlier in the season, Coalville made Brakes look like idiots when we visited them — well, Brakes made themselves look like idiots; Coalville just played around them.
This time, we appeared to be in control a bit more, and things trotted along fairly comfortably. Steve’s one working leg tired a little, so we went to sit on the North Bank. Just before half time, Debbie said to me “wouldn’t it be nice to have a goal before half time?”. 30 seconds later, Josh Blake slid in a Morton Titterton cross.
Leon Morgan made it 2-0 in the 85th minutes. Satisfaction all round.
Leamington 2 - 0 Coalville
Sunday saw the much anticipated charity match between Leamington Youth and Mersey TV — a squad mostly made up of Hollyoaks actors.
For once, over 50% of the New Windmill Ground crowd was female, under 25, and inadequately covered up for the chilly wind. You’ll hear no complaints from me.
The Hollyoaks lads took things very seriously, and when Brookside’s Mike Dixon swore at his own goalie (someone from Hollyoaks, we think), Debbie felt compelled to tell him “You’re not in Liverpool now!”
Brakes Youth took a goal in the second half, and looked set for victory until the 88th minute or so, when they gave away a penalty which Hollyoaks converted into a goal.
On a whim, it seems, Kev the ref decided to finish with a penalty shootout. I thought I helped out by making a comment about a turkish prison as Mike Dixon took his penalty and missed. However, we missed more, and the Mersey side won (I lost count, as I always do in penalty shootouts).
