Leamington 0 (3) - (2) 1 Chasetown
228 wordsI wasn’t expecting a lot of excitement from the second leg of the Polymac Cup semi final: with Leamington 3-1 up from the first leg, and with the advantage of their three goals being away goals, I expected the Brakes to put all their effort into a goalless draw.
However, there was plenty of action, and when Chasetown scored in the 45th minute, things suddenly got very tense.
Early on in the second half, Chasetown had made all their substitutions, meaning we were rather cruelly hoping for an injury — and indeed one of their defenders took a bit of a knock to the leg and had no option but to limp around for a while.
Leamington built a few good chances but didn’t score, and there were an awful lot of corners at the wrong end, which we could barely bring ourselves to watch. The tension was such that we were looking forward to getting home and relaxing with a nice laid back episode of 24.
Various stoppages meant that play continued for an excruciating 9 minutes after Leamington’s fancy electronic scoreboard indicated full time, but when the final whistle came the choir could finally chant “We’re all going to Walsall” with confidence.
The final is at Walsall FC’s Bescot Stadium on May 8th. On the way out we heard a small child asking his dad “Is the final really in Poland?”
