Rollright Stones

Debbie and I went on an outing to the border of Oxfordshire today, to see the Rollright standing stones.

When we set off it was bright and sunny, although we’d seen a shower come and go.

It started raining as we set off. South of Wellesbourne, we turned a corner and hit a layer of slush! Some cars by the side of the road had obviously failed to adjust to the driving conditions. The wintry scenes were astonishing for the time of year. I had to get out to take a photo.

Over the road from this scene, there was barely any snow at all.

We thought it might have cleared up when we got to Rollright, but unfortunately any bright spells were very short, and for the most part it was cold and wet. This didn’t deter a good number of visitors, meaning I couldn’t get the person-free stitch of all the stones I wanted.

We stayed for long enough to see all three antiquities (the solitary King’s Stone, the particularly ancient Whispering Knights barrow and the stone circle itself), get a few photos, absorb the atmosphere, and get cold and wet.
