Hanging shoes competition

Hanging shoes - (Flickr user ukslim).

Last week a pair of shoes appeared hanging from the phone lines at the Tachbrook Road end of Ranelagh Terrace in Leamington. Another pair appeared a bit later. Google returns lots of colourful theories about what this might signify — for example this collection.

For a bit of fun, I’m proposing a sweepstake on how many pairs of shoes will appear hanging from wires stretching from that particular pole, before somebody removes them.

Contact me by whatever means is most convenient to you (email, blog comment, phone, talk to me over the office desk partition, etc.), and I will draw you an entry at random, from my set of slips marked “2″ through to “8 or more”. The number refers to the number of pairs of shoes. Singleton shoes don’t count. The winner will be declared when either the number of pairs of shoes goes down, or increases to 8 pairs.

There is no entry fee, and I will stump up some kind of prize, at least equivalent in value to a pint of beer.

Only shoes observed on my walk to or from work count towards this competition. Entrants are forbidden from contributing their own shoes, or removing shoes from the lines themselves (although since I have no way of enforcing this, I must instead trust your sportsmanship). In the unlikely event of all slots not being taken, and an untaken slot winning, the next taken slot with fewer pairs will win.
Judges decision is final, and good luck!

Entries so far:

2 pairs: PFH
3 pairs: Tom H
4 pairs: Nigel G
5 pairs: Gary B
6 pairs: Debbie
7 pairs: John “Canol” C
8 pairs or more: Nice neighbour Steve

No more bets.
