Nintendo DS WiFi Connection and Linksys WAP11
118 wordsMy Gameboy DS didn’t get on with my wireless access point at first; making one minor change to the access point configuration solved the problem.
If you want to get a DS working with a Linksys WAP11 access point, here’s the secret:
- Get to the Web administration page (by default, http://192.168.1.251, but only available from the wired side of your network).
- Choose the “advanced” tab then the “wireless” tab.
- Set “Basic rates” to “1-2(Mbps)”. You can leave “Transmission rates” at “1-2-5.5-11(Mbps)”.
- Click “Apply”, and try to connect using your DS. It should work. It does for me.
I haven’t tested to see whether this has adversely affected the connection speed for other devices, but my Windows wireless client still reports an 11 Mbps connection.

I was hopeful, and it almost worked for me. In my network, I have a wireless router which uses WPA encryption over 802.11g only. I connected my WAP11 to the router, and set the access point to use WEP over 802.11b, in addition to the configuration suggested by this article.
During testing, my laptop was able to connect to the internet using either the router or the linksys, but the DS could not; while the DS could detect the SSID, it failed when testing connection.
I tried turning off WEP on the linksys, and still the same results: laptop yes, DS no.

oh one other possibly important thing to note: I’m using WAP11version2.2, firmware 1.01f (the latest).

Thanks for that! I had to give my DS a manual IP address etc but once that was done it works great!

Thanks for posting this info - it worked perfectly. I had to manually assign IP and DNS info to the DS as well, but as soon as I did it worked great. Thanks again!

I also needed set “Preamble Type” to “Short Preamble”, now it works perfect. Thanks for your help.
