The Descent

116 words, 1 image

The Descent is not a film inspired by the inexplicably popular confusingly 3 dimensional PC game of the mid 90s. Rather it is a British horror film about women not knowing their limits when it comes to caving.

The Descent

“Gruelling” is a compliment when it comes to a certain kind of horror film, and indeed there were parts of The Descent which I could barely watch. These weren’t the gory bits though — these were claustrophobic scenes early on in the caving expedition, which made me grind my teeth in discomfort.

Later, subterranean monsters turn up. The change in pace is nicely handled, and if it’s a bloodbath you want, then — quite literally — that’s what you get.

Recommended.
