Leamington 3 - 2 Solihull Borough
242 wordsI think you could describe last night’s third round Birmingham Counties Senior Cup match — in the cold and the rain — as a nailbiter.
Solihull scored the first one early on. During this time I stood under my umbrella, while Steve stood staunchly in the driving rain, and got soaked. For the second half, at Steve’s request, we cowered in the covered stand. Debbie finished work and showed up a short time later.
In the second half, Leon Morgan equalised.
At full time the score was 1-1, and the crowd of 310 sighed, but at least welcomed the prospect of getting to the warmth and dryness of home.
Then it was announced that, since The BCSC can’t stretch to replays, extra time would be played. Steve entertained the idea of giving up, but finally decided to stay the course, praying that penalties wouldn’t be required.
Kristian Kelsall scored for Brakes; 2-1. Solihull equalised; 2-2.
Just as we were all resigned to a penalty shootout, Josh Blake knocked in a winner in the 120th minute.
I wrung my socks out, in the car on the way home, warmed my feet under the blowers, and by the time we were home, I could feel my toes again.
Update: scoreline corrected. I thought Solihull had scored first, but the leamingtonfc.co.uk site disagreed with me, and I was foolish enough to take its word over my own recall. Turns out I was right in the first place; and they’ve now corrected their version.

I could have sworn it was 0-1 to Solihull when I got there at half time, and I’m sure I saw Leon score in the 2nd half.
The Leamington FC website agrees with your version though, so its possible my brain was frozen and I was hallucinating.

Debbie, you’re right, and the Leamington FC website was wrong (but is almost right now, bar a residual use of the word “restored”).
