Colchester [mutter] - 1 Leamington
219 words, 1 image… where [mutter] > 1.
I’ll be perfectly clear: the nightmarish Friday night journey through various traffic blackspots, subsequent curry, beer (at an empty theme bar; theme: school), sleep, full English breakfast, wander around the shops, coffee, glimpse of old castle, pub lunch, and attendance at a football match at a League ground no less, was our reward for Leamington’s success in getting as far as they did.
That they went on to lose 9 (NINE) -1 wasn’t great news, but since nobody had any real expectations against a team 6 divisions up the ladder, it didn’t dampen the atmosphere in the 1,000 strong Leamington crowd for long. People were still smiling on the way out. The early chants of “We’re gonna win 2-1″ simply became “We’re gonna win 10-9″ by the end (7-6 and 8-7 were ommitted because they didn’t scan).
We’re still in the Vase, and now we have more time to concentrate on all those Midland Alliance games we’re behind on.
It’s not often you see a team to a lap of honour after a 9-1 defeat, but that’s what we got tonight, to a long and loud ovation.
The goal was a cracker too, and to be honest, if you’d watched the play in between the goals, you might not have guessed it was such a drubbing.

they do an excellent sunday lunch (and I’d have thought that’d be right up your street) - but you should have walked up North Hill to the noodle bar (which is a guranteed good time)

It’s called Quilters. It was empty at 10:15 on a Friday night. Is it more of an eatery than a drinking den?

Leamington fans in “not very original at chanting” shocker!
