Leamington 3 - 2 Oldbury

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

After they beat us 4-1 in the league, Oldbury needed showing who was boss in Leamington’s first Birmingham Counties FA Senior Cup game (having got a bye in the first round).
Steve and I went and watched — me from an increasingly familiar position, cowering under an umbrella, and Steve proudly soaking in the rain.
1-0 [...]

TV stardom

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

BBC Midlands Today showed some footage of Leamington’s FA Cup goals against Woodford, and as it happens, Steve, Debbie and I were in shot both times. Stardom!
(Our heads are 2 scanlines high at most — but Debbie’s pink umbrella is clearly visible between Steve’s black umbrella and mine.)

FA Cup progress

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

There was a light drizzle when we set off for the New Windmill Ground, but by the time Leamington kicked off against Woodford United, it was tipping it down with rain. We learned that it’s difficult to juggle a cone of chips, a cup of Bovril and an umbrella.
Everything looked fairly even in the [...]

Anyway — that’s a jackalope. They’re rare you know. Some people think they don’t exist.

Black People Love Us

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

Our irregular “highlight of Popbitch” series continues:
blackpeopleloveus.com.
To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure I understand its every nuance, but I love its ambiguity, and I love the confusion evident in the “your letters” section. Is it racist, or is it not? Is it parodying racism but ultimately being racist itself? I don’t know!

Spam Karma 2

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

Something about the way PHP is set up by my hosting service broke the way Spam Karma downloaded its real time spammer blacklist, and as I got more and more out of date, the comment spam and the bloody trackback spam began to ramp up.
So I downloaded Spam Karma 2.o Final, and now [...]

Abandon

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

I think I have to resign myself to the fact that The Jug and Jester will never be a world class music venue. Nonetheless, after a Canal House residents’ meeting, we stayed on so that I could hear some live music while intently watching the backs of some young people’s heads.
First up were the [...]

Coalville 1 - 0 Leamington

Sunday, October 2nd, 2005

We drove to Coalville, in Leicestershire, to watch Leamington’s MFA league match there.
There can’t be many people who have eaten sushi at a non-league football ground. Now Debbie has. I missed out on this pleasure, by wolfing mine down in the car on the way up.
When Chris asked me about the general standard of [...]
