Family get together

200 words, 2 images

After the Holbeach match, instead of going home, we went to St Albans, to visit Ruth and Dave. They weren’t in, but we had anticipated this, and arranged for Mum and Dad to be there instead.

They took us for a fantastic feed at Cafe Des Amis, to celebrate Mum’s birthday and my still having a job. I had mussels, a great steak with brandy and blue cheese sauce, almond tart and coffee, so the waddle back to the house was challenging.

In the morning, Ruth and Dave had magically appeared while we were sleeping. After breakfast, we set off for a GPS-led two-car jaunt around the lanes of Hertfordshire, eventually finding Knebworth Park, our target.

It looked like this:

It seemed like a good time to get lunch, so we took to some more lanes, and followed Ruth and Dave to the Brocket Arms in picturesque Ayot St Lawrence. There we ate bar food, and had a look around the village, with its romantic ruined church (deliberately ruined in the early 1800s for that very effect) and Shaw’s Corner, a Shavian residence.

Then back to the house, some coffee, a look at the various pictures taken during the day, and home up the M1.
