Spam Karma 2 Verdict

121 words

Remember when I installed Spam Karma 2, 19 days ago?

It seems polite to let you know how it’s performed. Since installation it’s rejected 3,066 spam comments. To my knowledge it hasn’t rejected a single valid comment. It has let exactly one spam comment through, which I had to manually recategorise.

So, I’m very pleased.

One of the main spam-spotting strategies is to include some Javascript magic in the comment form. If the browser hasn’t handled this, then the comment’s karma is penalised. The spam that got through passed this test. Either that spam was manually submitted (which means its volume will always be low), or the baddies have worked out how to automate their way around that trap, so the arms race continues.
