Late weekend in Aberystwyth

211 words, 1 image

The football meant we arrived at my parents’ house on Saturday evening instead of Friday evening, but arrive we did, and I took Monday off work to compensate.

It was a relaxing late weekend, during which we had a bit of a stroll around Aberystwyth, along the prom (where we were denied splashy waves), up the Rheidol, over the new footbridge, then back into town for coffee at the Orangery, a fancy new wine bar / whatever, where the rough old Talbot Hotel used to be.

On our way out of town we paused outside the National Library of Wales, and in an adjoining field I found a sheep bearing a familiar HTTP error code, which I have incorporated into this site’s custom error document.

404 Sheep

On Monday, while Mum was toiling in a lecture theatre, Dad took us for lunch in the Academy — a chapel-to-pub conversion, with much of the Christian decoration preserved, and the pulpit converted into a DJ booth (unoccupied, for our lunch).

While in town, we bought the Sun and the Times, for their Brakes coverage — Mum demanded that we hide The Sun while we were in public, in case anyone saw us.

… and with that, we went home, stopping only for some essential food shopping in Morrisson’s in Newtown.
