First trophy of the season

158 words

This year is full of new experiences, and last night Steve and I went to see a football match in memory of a man struck by lightning. The Tony Allden Memorial Trophy is sort of the Charity Shield of the Midland Combination, and last night saw Leamington take on Coventry Sphinx.

Without too much at stake, it was a nice opportunity to have a civilised, polite game (apart from the swearing) and not exhaust the squad too much before Saturday’s big FA Cup game in Ossett.

I thought Coventry Sphinx were pretty good — I’ve seen Leamington do much worse against poorer opposition — but a goal from Eden, a hat trick from Ryan Howells, and a sniper-like goal from Jon Adams brought Leamington a 5-1 victory.

Meanwhile, Ossett drew 2-2 in what we can hope was a hard-fought and exhausting FA Trophy replay, to finally win 4-1 on penalties.

Leamington’s catering has moved from its caravan to a fancy new hut.
