FA Cup progress
244 wordsThere was a light drizzle when we set off for the New Windmill Ground, but by the time Leamington kicked off against Woodford United, it was tipping it down with rain. We learned that it’s difficult to juggle a cone of chips, a cup of Bovril and an umbrella.
Everything looked fairly even in the first half, but with about 15 minutes of the second half to go, a Woodford player was sent off, and Alex Rodman scored directly from the free kick. Then Rodman found himself accepting a pass into a wide open goal area, to knock in his second goal of the match.
There were a couple of dangerous moments from Woodford, but there were plenty of good opportunities for Leamington too, so I think the result was in line with the quality of play.
Leamington 2 - 0 Woodford United
BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire were in attendance, as were Warwickshire Police, for the first time in our visits. Official attendance was a stonking 1029, after a feature on yesterday’s Midlands Today TV news, and of course the magic draw of the Cup on glory hunters such as ourselves.
This takes Leamington to the 4th qualifying round: this is the last qualifier before the first round proper, and the round when Conference teams are introduced to the mix. The draw is on Monday.
Oh, and they finally got some scarves in, so we duly bought some.
