186 words, 1 imageSomething about the way PHP is set up by my hosting service broke the way Spam Karma downloaded its real time spammer blacklist, and as I got more and more out of date, the comment spam and the bloody trackback spam began to ramp up.
So I downloaded Spam Karma 2.o Final, and now I’m

It all looks very good — from the admin side it’s a lot nicer than it used to be — but since it’s only been in for 10 minutes, we have yet to see how good it is in terms of false positives and false negatives. If you get a genuine comment blocked, let me know and I’ll sort it out.
What happens is that each comment goes through a series of filters, which raise and lower its “karma” according to various heuristics. The final filter decides whether the comment lives or dies, according to its karma level. Cutely, this final filter is called “Anubis” (”He places their heart on the Scales of Justice during the Judging of the Heart, and he feeds the souls of wicked people to Ammit”).
