Brakes update

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Just in case anyone’s reading:
The main sources of Brakes news — folfc.org.uk and brakingnews.us — have both ceased operating under those names, and merged to become the official website, http://www.leamingtonfc.co.uk.
All the worthy recipients — regulars, supporters’ club members, etc. — ought by now to have bought their tickets for the FA Cup round […]

Family get together

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

After the Holbeach match, instead of going home, we went to St Albans, to visit Ruth and Dave. They weren’t in, but we had anticipated this, and arranged for Mum and Dad to be there instead.
They took us for a fantastic feed at Cafe Des Amis, to celebrate Mum’s birthday and my still having a […]

Holbeach 0 - 2 Brakes

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

I’ll keep it brief.
We went to Holbeach; it’s miles away, and has some link to Geoff Capes. The Brakes were playing Holbeach in the 1st round of the FA Vase.
Their programme lacked polish somewhat…

Their football was “physical”, with a nasty elbow meaning Alex Rodman had to be bandaged up Rambo-style to stem the bleeding […]

Leamington vs Colchester FA Cup Round One Tickets

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

There are 1,050 tickets allocated to Leamington for the FA Cup Round 1 match at Colchester on Nov 5th.
As supporters club members, Debbie and I are allowed up to two tickets each — two of which will be our own of course.
If you want to come with us, let me know by Friday, which […]

Chasetown 1 - 0 Blyth Spartans

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

Debbie’s been teaching on Tuesday evenings this term, so she’s missed out on midweek Brakes matches. This week being half term, we were looking forward to seeing a match together.
Unfortunately, Brakes didn’t have a match last night. We thought laterally, and remembered that fellow Midland Alliance “minnows” (as the Sun has it) Chasetown were playing […]

Spam Karma 2 Verdict

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

Remember when I installed Spam Karma 2, 19 days ago?
It seems polite to let you know how it’s performed. Since installation it’s rejected 3,066 spam comments. To my knowledge it hasn’t rejected a single valid comment. It has let exactly one spam comment through, which I had to manually recategorise.
So, I’m very pleased.
One of […]

Late weekend in Aberystwyth

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

The football meant we arrived at my parents’ house on Saturday evening instead of Friday evening, but arrive we did, and I took Monday off work to compensate.
It was a relaxing late weekend, during which we had a bit of a stroll around Aberystwyth, along the prom (where we were denied splashy waves), up […]

Ossett Town 2 - 3 Leamington

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

My weekend is over late — I took Monday off and stayed an extra day at my parents’. We were supposed to be there on Saturday, but the small matter of an FA Cup tie in Ossett.
On the drive up the M1, we saw quite a few fellow members of the Gold and Black […]

Flock - a new browser

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Flock is sort of a new browser, but sort of not. It’s Mozilla Firefox in some new clothes, but it does some interesting things. Considering this is release 0.5pre, and you have to click through umpteen warnings about how buggy to expect things to be, it seems unexpectedly stable.
There are quite a few features for […]

Leamington story on the FA website

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

As I write, the top story on the FA Web site is about Leamington.
We’re all very excited, so everything’s set up beatifully for a crushing defeat at the weekend…
