A Tale of Two Sisters
126 words, 1 imageLast night we watched the Korean film Janghwa, Hongyeon, or A Tale of Two Sisters from the impressive and growing selection of East Asian films at Leamington’s Choices Video.
It is not, as the cover suggested, the scariest film since Ring. Although it has its share of tension and scares, those are not its strongest points. Rather it is original, well acted, atmospheric and clever, and thoroughly recommended.
My Japanese skills have faded spectacularly since I last attended lessons, so it was satisfying in a way that both Debbie and I were struck by how the Korean dialogue was “gibberish”, whereas when we watch Japanese films we still need the subtitles, but can just about connect the sentence structure we hear to what we read on the screen.
