Freak promotes IBM OS

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

I can’t be bothered to tell you how I stumbled upon this article.

What bothers me is why this strange man is wearing an AIX t-shirt. Is IBM paying him?

Nottingham’s unofficial Pacific Northwest music festival

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

I have never been to Nottingham. It’s about 90 minutes away by car.
But this November, it’s being flooded with great music from Washington State and Oregon.
Kinski on the 3rd, Sleater-Kinney on the 10th, The Decemberists on the 14th.
Maybe I need to get a timeshare apartment up there or something.

Two films

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

We rented two films on Sunday, and watched them that night and last night.
The first was House of the Dead.

It’s a film based on the Sega arcade game of the same name. What could possibly go wrong? In fact this is well known for being rubbish — yet not even bad enough to be [...]

Traders of Genoa

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

We popped around to MC’s to play a board game with MC, Gary and Paul.
The game chosen turned out to be “Traders of Genoa“. In this, players take turns to control the five-hop route of a trader through the streets and buildings of the board. Other players bargain and bid in an attempt to [...]

Zombie catchup

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly looking forward to George Romero’s Land of the Dead, which is already in cinemas.
Opportunistically, the BBC is showing Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead (the 1978 original, not the recent remake, which is also excellent) and Day Of The Dead, this week, starting [...]

Leamington 2 - 2 Oadby

Saturday, September 24th, 2005

We rustled up quite a contingent for Leamington’s FA Cup 2nd qualifying round against Oadby. Steve S and Ian joined Steve W, Debbie and me.
Leamington drew ahead twice, only to succumb to an equaliser each time, so it’s a replay at Oadby (a “bus stop in Leicester”) on Tuesday, which we won’t be able [...]

My very own Sonic

If Steve can have a virtual pet, then so can I.

adopt your own virtual pet!

SFA OK again

Wednesday, September 21st, 2005

JV joined me on a jolly outing to the Birmingham Academy to see the Super Furry Animals. He brought some cans of high quality lager for the train journey up, which was nice.
El Goodo provided support. They had something of an identity problem, in that some of their songs sounded like The Las, some [...]

Maritime film

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

Last night’s DVD pleasure was The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, a Wes Anderson film with Bill Murray in it, which is a good enough sales pitch for me.
I can honestly say I have no idea what it was all about, but it was all tremendously entertaining, they had a lot of fun with [...]

A Tale of Two Sisters

Monday, September 19th, 2005

Last night we watched the Korean film Janghwa, Hongyeon, or A Tale of Two Sisters from the impressive and growing selection of East Asian films at Leamington’s Choices Video.
It is not, as the cover suggested, the scariest film since Ring. Although it has its share of tension and scares, those are not its strongest [...]
