Leamington vs Rocester

Last time we tried to go and see Leamington play, we got distracted by an open house on the way to the bus stop, and instead of going, we frantically phoned mortgage companies then made an offer on it…

This time the only panic was whether Debbie would get back in time for us to go. She did, and we went, and Steve came too.

I don’t even know where Rocester is, but it can’t be far, because none of the teams in the Midland Alliance are. They were no match for Leamington though, and received a 4-0 drubbing.

I got two touches of the ball from the sidelines — I’ve played in football games where I’ve had fewer touches than that.

The best bit of gritty football humour arose when the ball went out of play and the Rocester goalie was fetching it. The ref had other business to attend to, and said “Could you just hold onto that?”, to which, as he walked away, the goalie muttered “That’ll be a fucking first”.

Anyway, grassroots football, eh? I enjoyed it, and we’re even thinking of making the long trek to Stratford for Tuesday’s evening fixture: before today’s match Leamington and Stratford were tied at the top of the table, neither having lost a game this season.
