Tesco/Borders
260 wordsWhen we woke up in the gloriously kitch Hinckley Island Hotel this morning, there was a bill slipped under our door, including £27 for breakfast. We decided not to have breakfast, had that knocked off the bill, and spent £5.30 between us on a fry-up at Coventry’s enormous Tesco.
There’s a new Borders bookshop next door, so we spent some time choosing some holiday reading. I bought some H.P. Lovecraft — last time I read it I found the old fashioned language virtually unreadable, but this book has some of the more important stories to the mythos, and I think it’s worth persevering with. I also bought The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, because I like the premise and the reviews have been good. Also it was on a three for two offer…
Debbie bought Attention All Shipping by Charlie Connelly, a themed comedy travel book, along with Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen, to make up the three for two.
We’ve been to the Coventry Tesco a couple of times, but I’m always astonished by its size. They sell a full range of paint for heaven’s sake. One advantage of its size and customer base is the wide range of Indian foodstuffs. As well as a great range of spices, pulses, sauces, pickles and chutneys, they sell 20kg sacks of rice, gram flour etc. We didn’t buy one of those, but we bought a 5kg plastic tub of basmati rice, which is very convenient to have.
(What an incredibly dull post. As ever, having written it, I’m not going to delete it.)
