The Power of Nightmares free download

182 words

The Power of Nightmares, which I mentioned briefly yesterday, is a BBC documentary which, over the course of three hour-long episodes, asserts that governments are vastly exaggerating the terrorist threat in order to maintain power. What’s more, the rag-tag affiliation of independent extremists that makes up Al Qaeda is all too happy to play up to this, because it suits them very well if the population at large believes them to be a well-organised, vast, centrally controlled organisation.

You probably knew all that anyway, but it’s nice to have it all explained, and evidence given. I liked the revelations that the name Al Queda was invented by FBI prosecutors who needed a Mafia-like organisation to exist in order to prosecute its leader in absentia. I was also interested to see a number of nuclear scientists stating that the danger to life from a dirty bomb would be negligible — that panic would be the only danger.

It turns out that the whole thing is available to download from archive.org. Archive.org is a reputable service, so I believe this is authorised by the copyright owner.
