Rhubarb Rhubarb

222 words

Look what time it is. I had to get up because for some reason I wasn’t getting to sleep. This is blogging as an attempt to bore myself sleepy.

On Saturday we had lunch at Rhubarb Rhubarb in Leamington. It’s been on my list of places we’ve never tried for ages. It turns out (the Internet says) that what we experienced on Saturday is the result of a major refurbishment, changing it from an ornament and curiousity shop with integral cafe, to something more akin to a restaurant. You can still go in for a coffee, or some cake; or there’s tapas, or a traditional starters and mains menu.

It’s nice: the ceiling is unfeasibly high, and painted a deep burgundy for a luxuriously dark and bohemian feel. Candles (which I assume are lit in the evening) stand in brass candlesticks shaped like stags’ antlers.

Some parts of the Internet also say this is a vegetarian establishment. My lamb neck with braised lentils and chorizo, and Debbie’s meltingly tender lamb shoulder, suggest that information is out of date. Both were gorgeous.

The prices were a little extravagant for what was meant to be a casual lunch (main courses vary from around £11-£14), but the quality matched the price. I’m definitely keen to go for an evening meal there next time there’s a suitably special occasion.
