Phoenix and Pete visit

Tuesday, May 17th, 2005

Phoenix and Pete came to visit last night, which was a fine excuse to go and eat at the Thai Elephant. We ordered banquet “B”. I thought when we ordered it that all present were capable of reading, and would therefore have noticed that this was the “Hot and Spicy” selection — but it [...]

Gary sent me this link to pictures of an abandoned Japanese amusement park.

A stag weekend

Monday, May 16th, 2005

Friday and Saturday comprised Mr Michael Scott’s stag weekend, and I went to Birmingham to lend my support.
Executive highlights:

Train to Birmingham 6ish on Friday

All Bar One, Brindleyplace for a start on the drinking, and some food

iTunes and Windows XP SP2

Tuesday, May 10th, 2005

While I was playing with the Mac last night, Debbie was struggling to get to a position where she could play with her posh blue iPod mini.
iTunes installer would run, during which its directory would appear in “C:\Program Files”, then promptly disappear.
So, in case it should help you:
iTunes installer doesn’t work in Windows XP [...]

Here comes my Mac

Monday, May 9th, 2005

I was just about ready to write a whingeing piece about the Apple online store’s delivery process — and I may yet — but our Mac Mini has finally arrived, and with it Debbie’s iPod Mini, which surely we should have got within days of ordering it.
Never mind.
The Mini is up and running, and [...]

IBM FT embarrasment

Monday, May 9th, 2005

IBM no doubt paid an awful lot of money for a four full page pullout section in the Financial Times, advertising IBM Business Consultants.
So that employees could witness this aggressive marketing for themselves, someone distributed a full copy of the paper to every table in the IBM Warwick canteen.
It’s ironic then, that many [...]

Who didn’t move my cheese?

Stinky cheese - (Flickr user ukslim).

We found this box forgotten in our larder. Cheese that had been left in an airtight environment, unrefrigerated, since Christmas — over 4 months.
Malodorous!

Graffiti seen in Leamington Spa

Graffiti seen in Leamington Spa - (Flickr user ukslim).

Driving to the Smith Street car park bottle bank today, we saw a new graffiti in a familiar style. Since it was an easy walk I went back later for a photo.
It looks like this and the others in its ilk around Leamington (including the Mill [...]

Holy Mole!

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

Ruth bought Debbie a “Holy Trinity” mole poblano kit from the Cool Chile Co., for Christmas.
Last night we served it to Tom, Abbi, Stu and Laura, and it was tasty. Thanks Ruth!
What with frying the chillies, soaking them, liquidising them, straining them, toasting sesame seeds, grilling tomatos, frying garlic, almonds and raisins, straining that, [...]

2009 Election news

Saturday, May 7th, 2005

Something I didn’t know, from icCoventry:

Mr Plaskitt will have an easier task to hold onto his seat at the next general election than the result would appear to show. By then, boundary changes will mean his seat will contain fewer rural areas.
A new sixth parliamentary constituency is to be created in Warwickshire, called Kenilworth [...]
