Free! Legal! Good! Mwng was SFA’s last all-Welsh release as a band. I particularly recommend tracks 3,5 and 10, Y Gwyneb Iau, Nythod Cacwn and Gwreiddiau Dwfn/Mawrth Oer Ar Y Blaned Neifion.

If anyone can find the B side to Yspeidiau Heulog on that site, let me know, because I don’t have it.

I’ve seen Mwng described as a “concept album” because it’s all in Welsh. Even as someone who never had a great deal of sympathy for Welsh Language activism, that makes me pretty cross. The songs are not Welsh as a gimmick, they just came out of Gruff’s head when he was in a Welsh speaking frame of mind — which since he’s a Welsh speaker who spends time among other Welsh speakers, will be a lot of the time.
