A stag weekend
231 wordsFriday and Saturday comprised Mr Michael Scott’s stag weekend, and I went to Birmingham to lend my support.
Executive highlights:
- Train to Birmingham 6ish on Friday
- “Scenic route” walk to Travelodge Broad Street; Mike, Marcel, Chris are in reception
- All Bar One, Brindleyplace for a start on the drinking, and some food
- More people turn up, move on to Walkabout
- Stay in Walkabout until asked to leave. All but Mike taxi to Stratford Road for a curry at the Royal Naim.
- Taxi back to hotel, sleep
- Friday morning, breakfast at the Figure of Eight. Marcel’s revolting looking “muddy puddle” provokes comment from all (it’s orange juice mixed with Coke).
- A stroll around Birmingham so those who used to live there can “ooh” and “aah” at the remarkable changes
- Go-Karting at the really rather good TeamWorks track. Who would have thought electric cars would have so much poke?
- The Black Horse, Sacks of Potatoes (incorporating food from the Coffee and Cream), The Gostna Green, some rough place on Corporation Street, a very nice place by the cathedral, The Stage on Centenery Square
- Back to hotel, so we can change into evening attire
- The Springbok, Broad Street — no longer serves Castle. So what’s its point?
- Waxy O’Connor’s — virtually a simulacrum of the London one; but Saturday is “funky house” night…
- Breeze into Flares, skipping the queue and the pay booth, thanks to Darren and his brewery contacts. Cheers Daz!
- Directly to bed, nowhere else on the way.
