iTunes and Windows XP SP2

119 words

While I was playing with the Mac last night, Debbie was struggling to get to a position where she could play with her posh blue iPod mini.

iTunes installer would run, during which its directory would appear in “C:\Program Files”, then promptly disappear.

So, in case it should help you:

iTunes installer doesn’t work in Windows XP SP2. To work around this, uninstall SP2 (in add/remove programs), install iTunes, then (if you want to) reinstall SP2.

Debbie found this out; I take no credit. I was no use because I was messing about with the Mac.

I know SP2 has its issues, but could this be an example of Apple deliberately making their software shoddy on Windows in order to make Macs seem attractive?

The number one reason I didn’t get an iPod was itunes.

Any application that thinks it’s helpful to rebuild folders, reapply MP3 tags, and rename and reorganise files didn’t learn anything from frontpage.

Incidentally, didn’t you need itunes for your iPod?

I did, but I’m still on Windows 2000.

iTunes deserves a special place in hell, but on the other hand I’ve learned to work within its constraints.

OTOH, iTunes is not the only way of keeping an iPod populated. WinAmp can do it, for example.
