Ripley’s Game

139 words

We watched Ripley’s Game last night. John Malcovitch is usually good value for money, and we had mildly enjoyed The Talented Mr Ripley.

This one was entertaining enough, and Debbie got to find out what Ray Winstone looks like (he has recently been filming in Heywood, where she grew up).

It left a bit of a sour taste in the mouth though. I’m not recommending the film, so I don’t feel guilty of spoiling any surprises when I say it’s the story of an amoral man, getting away with it. He’s portrayed as a kind of super-antihero in any case, so the getting away with it part is not a big surprise, so all you’re left with is the further recognition that the character is a sociopath. Which you knew anyway.

And how come the police never nail him? That’s never explained.
