Board Silly

Tuesday, March 15th, 2005

I played Power Grid with Gary, Dave, Tony, Chris and John last night, while another table played DOOM! the Board Game (”My pistol has an attack roll of 4 and a range of 3, but you have a +2 modifier…” ew. Although, it did feature chainsaws).
Power Grid was excellent, and lasted the whole evening.

eFestivals Sound Generator

Sunday, March 13th, 2005

Here’s an interesting idea: using the eFestivals sound generator, you can choose a 2005 music festival and (optionally a stage), and it will compile a set of music samples for you.
So far the set of samples available isn’t comprehensive, so here’s hoping they get the rights for more.

More for my future reference than yours:
Planted Cosmos and Stock in seed trays.
Also some Sweet Peas, but I need more pots for these.

Alien vs Predator

What jolly good fun!

Sociable afternoon

Saturday, March 12th, 2005

All we wanted to do was get a quiet lunch in town.
To be sociable, though, we called Laura to see if she wanted to join us. She did.
We had a pleasant lunch at the erstwhile Sozzled Sausage (now just “The Sausage”), then browsed through a few charity shops, where Debbie bought some Mr Men [...]

Doug moving on

Saturday, March 12th, 2005

Doug was my manager when I did my sandwich year at IBM. He was also the manager responsible for re-recruiting me to IBM when I left Shenley Court. He sneaked me past all those tedious graduate recruitment processes: a double edge’d sword, but thanks Doug!
He ditched management for a time inbetween those two events, [...]

Happy Birthday Rich

Saturday, March 12th, 2005

It’s Rich’s birthday today. Happy birthday. We went to the Old Butcher’s on Thursday to pay our respects. I only just got around to recording the fact for posterity.

Michael Howard: A reminder

Thursday, March 10th, 2005

“Banned in the UK” continues, with a series of shows similar to “The Golden Years” (archive footage, hits of the period), only focusing on things that were banned at the time.
Section 28 was covered.
It reminded me that Michael Howard — the man who now wants you to elect him as Prime Minister — was [...]

Cymraeg are a Gwe

Thursday, March 10th, 2005

Mae fy Nghymraeg i yn dioddefi, diolch i blynyddoedd yn byw yn Lloegr, ond mae’n bosib fy mod i ddal yn medru adnabod rhyddiaith Cymraeg llechwith (fel y Cymraeg hyn).
Mae Wicipedia — y Wikipedia Cymraeg, yn edrych yn llechwith i mi.
Mae gen i teimlad fod Cymraeg ddim yn iaith gyfleis i’r fath o cyfarthrebi [...]

Puppy

Wednesday, March 9th, 2005

I haven’t tried this, but I am wowed by the concept.
Puppy is a Linux distribution in 50MB. It can boot from a CD, USB pen drive, whatever, and run entirely in RAM. It has a full GUI, and a comprehensive set of end-user applications.
So far, so good. There are plenty of competitors in this [...]
