Xbox Live!

Tuesday, September 14th, 2004

Last night, I signed on to Xbox Live, to try my hand at broadband online
gaming. The game: Burnout 3.

Because our only phone socket is in the kitchen — a long way from the
TV — we rely on wireless networking, and so the Xbox plugged into the
wireless bridge normally reserved for the TiVo.

Signing on was not [...]

Girlie Snack

Monday, September 13th, 2004

Blair turned up for coffee this afternoon — “still carrying” his last
five Yorkie bars — bearing what might be the
country’s most effeminate coffee time snack:
Sveltesse

“Liberate your belly button” quoth the packaging. Come on Blair — get it
out.

A Visit from Gwent

Sunday, September 12th, 2004

Chris, MD of Pug Fugly Games
(new game, ChainSpace is intriguing!), and his lovely wife Rae came to
visit.

We played a little Burnout 3 with them
We had nice sausages and mash at the
Sozzled Sausage,
marred only by a woman wearing a shocking pink leggings and top combo on the
next table.
We bought some Halloween related tat from Stone the [...]

Films

Here is a list of films with nothing in particular in common.

Interview with the Vampire
Leon
The Addams Family
School of Rock

Response

Thursday, September 9th, 2004

I have to respond to Debbie’s accusation that I’ve decided I’m
English not Welsh. I cling to my dual nationality.

However, I fully admit to not getting the hang of this
supporting - your - team - through - thick - and - thin lark, and I don’t really see the point of rooting
for Wales when it’s clear [...]

Newfound Respect for Sugar

Thursday, September 9th, 2004

Bloglines watches blogs for me. It
also keeps an eye out for any blog entries containing “Leamington”. Mostly
these days that means status reports on the World Women’s Bowls.

Today though, it’s brought up an
interview
with one Miss Frenchie, who is apparently resident DJ at Sugar in Leamington.

She’s done some OK bootlegs: two at the bottom of the linked [...]

Aliens, MIT and the March of Technology

Wednesday, September 8th, 2004

We watched James Cameron’s Aliens
last night (while, unbeknownst to us, a pished up Amber bombarded my MSN
Messenger), having watched Alien a few nights ago.
It’s really very good you know. I later found out that the
special edition DVD we watched is the best bet, with some nice background
about Ripley’s daughter dying (age 65) while Ripley was [...]

Outrun 2 Demo

Sunday, September 5th, 2004

Game gave me a demo disk of Xbox Out Run 2, in exchange for a £3 deposit on
the full version, which comes out in October.

It really is exactly what you’d want a modern sequel to Out Run to be. Bright,
breezy music, pretty skies, and very fast driving.

The demo limits you to arcade mode and just [...]

Happy Birthday Kate. Happy Birthday Mike

Sunday, September 5th, 2004

To celebrate Mike and Kate’s birthdays, Debbie and I went to Alton Towers with
Tracy and Chelsea. OK, Mike, Kate, and all sorts of other people were there
too, and we did see them there briefly, but for the most part we were a
hardcore four-person team.

A good time was had by all, except for Chelsea’s disappointment at [...]

Reading Festival

Friday, September 3rd, 2004

In preparation for our trip to Madrid, we bought books. I went straight for
the three-for-two new paperbacks section, and bought three new paperbacks.
They only charged me for two. I got started on the plane, read two and
started a third during the holiday. I just finished the third, so let me
tell you about them…

Toast - Nigel [...]
