Big Fish

125 words

We watched Tim Burton’s Big
Fish
last night. During, I found myself strangely unimpressed, chuckling at
the odd joke, but not totally satisfied. I think it might be that
Santa Sangre set the
standard for the exotica of the circus, so this couldn’t compete there.
Ewan McGregor and Albert Finney — though both excellent (especially
Finney) — don’t have particularly convincing Alabama accents. Nor does
that Helena Bonham Carter…

But then, towards the end, it crept up on me, and I found myself
genuinely weeping. So in fact it’s a great film, and certainly a return
to form after Planet of the
Apes
and even Sleepy
Hollow
(a self-describing film!).

In fact, dammit. I’m going to assert that Big Fish is a better film than
Edward Scissorhands. There,
I’ve done it. Leave my beloved Mars Attacks! out of this.
