A Day At the Races

125 words

In what was supposedly an IBM Club event — though we recognised no other
IBMers — Debbie and I, Paul, Gary and MC went to Warwick Racecourse for the
day. I forgot to take my camera. Again.

Debbie and I set an early budget of £30 between us — amounting to a
£2.50 each way bet for each of the six races. Early success allowed us
to double that to a £2.50 each way bet each on the last two races. In the
last race, my horse Bojangles came in first, with Debbie’s Gustavo coming
in second, a length behind.

I believe our winnings more or less covered our admission, bar bills, our
tasty pie in the Old Fourpenny
Shop
, pre-race charity shop book buying, bus fare in and taxi home.

More or less. Hurray!
