Less than a week to go

Saturday is the big day — we’re flying to Boston, where we’ll stay for a couple of nights, then we’ll get a hire car and drive it to Provincetown, on the very tip of Cape Cod, . That’s the Eastern end of our 4,000 mile, four week journey to Cannon Beach, Oregon on the West coast.

The route illustrated on the map approximates ours. It was generated by Google Earth, and Google Earth loves freeways. However, we will mostly be on the smaller US-20, avoiding the freeways. This is our third coast-to-coast journey across the USA, and it could well be our last for a while. By the end of this trip, we’ll have visited all but six of the mainland states (a cluster in the SouthEast — and pesky Arkansas) and seen the North, South and middle bands of the country. People are starting to accuse us of not being adventurous because we keep going back to the US.

Highlights I’m expecting to enjoy include Niagara Falls, Carhenge, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, and of course the John Deere tractor factory.

If I misled anyone into thinking there’d be a podcast, then I’m sorry.  We just didn’t get around to sorting out the infrastructure. As always, if there’s no update for a couple of days, be optimistic and assume we’ve not been able to get on the Internet from our $25 motel room. Don’t be pessimistic and assume we’ve been abducted by yokels, like in Breakdown. It’s highly unlikely.
