Covington LA to Selma MS
Having three days to get back to Atlanta, today was a driving day. For once we were up in time for a motel breakfast of self service bagel, coffee, juice and Cornflakes.
We kept off the Interstate as much as possible, and as we got close to the Louisiana we hit a police roadblock. When it came to our turn, the policeman said to Debbie "Insurance!". As she reached for the Alamo "certificate of self-insurance", he said "Wait a minute, where is his car from?". "Well, the car is registered in Florida, but we hired it in Georgia". "Aw, we don't care what y'all do up there." ... and we were on our way.
Soon we were in Mississippi again, on samey roads, generally with deciduous trees on both sides.
We stopped at Subway for meatball sandwiches. They were both tasty and messy.
We stopped just after the Alabama border for a Welcome Centre, where they (correctly) advised us that there would be no problems getting a hotel in Selma.
We proceeded to Selma, and had no problems getting a room at the Budget Inn. It's cheap. Hence the name. We used a coupon from the Welcome Centre to make it even cheaper.
I spent some time treating Debbie's sunburnt forehead. I have an excellent bedside manner if I say so myself. We are now ready to forage for food.
Forage: successful. The Tally-Ho restaurant. Steak for Debbie. Chicken and Shrimp for me. I ordered rice but got fries. It's an accent thing.
