Los Angeles

We suffered on the freeways to get to te LaBrea Tar Pits, from which tens of thousands of high quality ice-age fossils have been retrieved. We had to go there - it was just so Sam & Max. The Simpsons went to some tar pits once, too... Stampy the elephant pulled Homer out...

The accompanying museum had hundreds of complete fossils from their huge collection.

After that we stopped on the way back to the motel to buy some towels. The roads finally drove Debbie to tears - I was surprised, because she's been doing a great job since we got here, and yet not surprised, because the roads are indeed terrifying, and that's why she (the city driver of the two of us) has been driving and I've been sitting next to her admiring her bravery and begging her not to make me drive.

All that was forgotten by the time we got out of the motel again and were heading for the beach. Parking on the narrow Manhattan Beach streets was impossible, and we'd left the area and entered Hermosa Beach by the time we found a parking meter. We spent an hour or so flailing around in the waves - the Pacific off LA is warm and clear. Quite a new experience for someone used to Borth Beach.

Now we're doing our final packing, trying to get all our acquired things into our bags so they'll fit on the plane. Wish us luck.
